automatic steering column problems

Post by ian1967 »

hello newly joing, awesome information here sick trucks too!
i just recently got a 67' f100, and my automatic column shift lever can shift out of park in to any gear but reverse, and when i put it back in park or any other gear higher than the previous gear it doesn't engage the tranny link. slips in the column? broken column? what parts or a complete rebuild? tranny is find, i manually shifted in gear and works fine, drive and reverse, what do i need to fix this problem , thanks

One thing to look at that is a constant issue with our trucks is the cab mounts. When they rust out they cause the truck to "settle" or shift causing linkage issues.
Are you saying it goes into reverse when shifted by hand at the transmission-but not by the shifter inside the cab? :hmm:
