Rueben, my 71 F 250

Post by mkitchen »

I have been working on Rueben for quite a while and it is coming along nicely. I just finished the interior and now hope to get the suspension working better

Image

The interior came out very nice and much quieter. I lined everything that I could with FatMat prior to carpeting and boy, what a difference. I still have some small holes in the firewall that I need to buy plugs for but overall, it is near done. There is a Cobra CB mounted under the seat and I hook up the mike with all the controls in it as needed. That way I don't have the CB showing when I don't need it. There is also a remote speaker mounted on the tranny hump. All wiring is under the carpet.

Also added a second battery with an isolator. This is to cover my camping needs in the camper shell. I use a CPAP breathing machine and I also may want to bring along my 12 volt fridge. I plan to have the camper built up this winter but in the mean time there is power to it now.

I also re-did the headliner. The original was getting worn and cracked and needed to be updated. My son in law and I decided to make a new one. We used the original as a pattern and fiberglassed it and then insulated between the headliner and the roof and covered the fiberglass with foam and cloth headliner material. It came out pretty nice for the little that we spent on it.

I am looking forward to getting the new shocks and replacing the spring bushings. I am also upgrading to H4 headlights with the relays and wiring. It never seems to end but I am enjoying the work.

Awesome truck! More along the lines of what I'd build to be ready for anything.
Also love the extra height of the camper top.

A friend at work has an Alaskan 10' that I am going to go up and have a look at. It is apparently the right age for Rueben. The problem with them is that most of them all have the bed running from side to side and that does not allow me enough room to stretch out my 6'7" length.
I still do a lot of four wheeling with Rueben and don't want to weigh him down too much. But an Alaskan would look really good on him.

6'7 hmm. I had a 8ft non cabover alaskan. the one thing I was most shocked about it was the fact I could stretch out in the bed and not touch head or toe but im only 6'2 the extra 5 inches might make the difference. They really do give you alot in a compact package. plus they get out of your way for when you want to drive or go bush jumping. I loved the way my 72 4x4 looked with a alaskan on it. no one ever thought it was a camper they all thought it was a shell. lol the look on their faces when I pulled up to a group a guys and pumped it up.....Best of luck with whatever you decide on. either way your truck is going to look great, it already does.
