70 rat project

Post by 70f10rat »

Few pics, first one is how it sat when the wrecker dropped it off in my drive. The next few were after the rear hanger flip and coils cut up front. Few more misc. parts and I'll be cruisin!

Plans are to leave as is, build the 390 I got on trade and swap out the three spd. For a toploader 4 spd.
Just make it scream, wolf in sheeps clothing so to speak.

Sounds fun. I'm all for the big resto projects, but sometimes you just want to enjoy these old trucks with a little bit of work.

We'll as it stands, I'll have the truck on the road on the next week...390 is on the stand in shortblock form...(waiting for winter layoff to be built). But I'm going to drive the crap out of the truck till then.
Question is, the hood is an off teal. Should I paint it black?, primer gray?, sand it down a bit and sit it out to get rusty.... Or try to match the color some other way.... It's a factory color but it's lost its shine...so a flat green.

Let me know your thoughts or opinions!

Made two landfill trips yesterday, runs great! Idk if it's the skinny wheels or just the nature of the beast, but it wanders a little going down the road. It tracks straight, may have been just the wind.
My new daily until it goes under the knife for the big block next winter.

Nah, they do that. Not nicknamed "wandering Fords" for nothing. Sway bars and a steering stabilizer will take a lot of it out. Great truck!
