Not so far, bear with us.

Did you try clearing your internet cache? I have been unable to duplicate it, but that doesn't really mean much.

Yessir, I did. No joy.

It seems to come & go in five minute intervals. Once it starts, you might as well wait it out for 5 minutes & after that 5 minutes, you have 5 minutes to use anything requiring a search, if that makes any sense.

Almost like something is on a timer, off for 5 min. on for 5 min. & so on.

I've checked it from 3 different computers. Home, work, & mobile & they're all doing the same thing. For the record, all three machines have a different ISP.

That almost sounds like flow control has somehow been set, that should affect everyone though. :?

If we don't hear from him shortly I will call Keith.

I'm getting the same issues as papabug. Good to know the scheduled timing though. I'll know to wait 5 mins now :D

I'm still continuing to get the phrase "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes." when going backwards through pages of searches. :hmm:

Jeff, try searching a members posts' . Click on my username & then click on "search user's posts".

That's what has been giving me alot of trouble, along with the "view your posts" & "view active topics".

See if it works for you. So far so good tonight, but i've only been on for a little while.

They'll get it fixed. They always do. It's just a matter of tracking the problem down. That's the hard part!

Im still a firm believer this is the best automotive site/forum on the internet. No ads, no pop ups, no viruses, just good clean fun.

Sorry I haven't been around much over the past few weeks to look into the problems here, guys. I've been dealing with the effects of a hernia over the past few weeks, and finally had to go in for surgery a week ago to do some repairs....and I've been dealing with the after-effects of that since. The pain meds have been knocking me out and I'm just now getting to the point where I can (somewhat) comfortably sit for a while.

Anyway...a couple weeks ago, our server hosts were ranting and raving about how much the forums were dragging down their server. They were saying that too many queries were being run to the forum's database. This increased load was beginning to affect the performance of the other websites that were being hosted off the same server...so I had to find a way of at temporarily reducing the number of database queries being issued. At the time they gave me 24 hours to fix the problem or they were going to shut down my account completely.

One way was to turn off a couple forum features that we've been using, such as the Users Online list on the forum's index page. Another way was to turn off the Server Side Topic Marking. What that does is keep track of your marked topics on a cookie on your computer instead of keeping track of that on the server, which slightly lessens it's impact on the server.

I also disabled 'Dotted Topics', which basically marks the topics that you've posted to. I apologize for having to do that, since I know having the topics marked makes it much easier to find them, but at the time I felt it was better to lose slight functionality over loosing the entire site and forums.

Keith, glad to see you're back. Hope all goes well with your recovery from surgery.

One area of concern I mentioned to the mods was the level of spam in the bump wiki. Im sure it's dragging the server down & could be a reason the hosts were ranting. Im sure Robert & the other mods have made you aware of the situation, so I wont post a link. S*ammers entered 54 changes yesterday alone, all with hyperlinks. Looks like they're getting in between 50-60 entries in a 24hr. period.

Thanks for everything & glad to see you're back.

Yeah, it's been some time since I was over there. I think I'm just going to temporarily disable it until I can archive the articles posted and then delete it completely. It was started as a way for users to submit articles, but in the several years since it's been up online, I think maybe one or two articles were submitted....so it's not like anyone's gonna miss it.

Well, I hate to see it go, but if it has to, it has to. Im sure it's using up some bandwidth or whatever it's called.

I do go over to it every now & them. I get 404 errors on alot of links, but the stuff they're pertaining to is still on the tech/totorials link, so it's not that big of a deal.

Tried to respond to this last night and it would not let me. Sorry to hear about the health issue-but very glad to hear your recovering Keith!
Only way I was able to come here presently to post this was to delete all my cookies. I could get to the front forum page-and nowhere after that. I was continually getting the same prompt again and again: "The server was reset-try posting again later".
