Just picked this up, 69 Ranger shortbox, 2wd, no engine, paid $850 plus transport, just found a good running 390 Auto for $100, had a little hole on front fender but otherwise not bad, don't know if mirrors are original, looks like a second paint job, vin shows no paint code, thinking on the light green/ white combo.

Nice find! Looks like a solid foundation for a heck of a nice bump build.

Back in the day my first truck was a 70 4 speed then a couple of 73's and 74's , good to be back at it after 34 years, was wondering what the heck you guys were talking about as "bump trucks" then ah ha the bump in the side vs. the later recess. Anyway I am kind of torn on putting in a later 302 I have a lead on, fuel injected vs. the old 390, like the idea of a much more reliable and gas friendly 302, can always keep the 390 on backup. Also torn on the paint combo: Aqua blue/ white or the light green/white, looks like it was light blue originally from a few paint chips in the current paint.

Looks and sounds like a great deal! As for motor choice and paint colors, they are really just a personal choice but honestly, I really like these trucks in two tone colors. Enjoy the build!

Welcome to our site.

I'd get it running and buff it out and drive it before tearing it apart for paint.
A 302 is a good engine , but I like more cubes, 390s are period correct and a good choice .
If I was starting from scratch I'd put in a 429. :2cents:

I've owned and have been working on our bumps and dents for over 35 years now and never seen that mirror. Am also betting that you won't find FoMoCo stamped on it anywhere?
As far as I know the 69' had two different mirror options. One being the West Coast Jr you see on most F-250 & F-350's and this one:
Is that a Model-A in the background?

Good to know about the mirror, wonder if it could have been a special order dealer item as I see no other holes ? T
here is a 33 Chrysler, 40 ford Convert. and a 1927 Whippet in the background, also a 29 Ford pickup on the other side.

Well I took the mirror off, and " HIA made in Taiwan, also after a bit of scuffing found the old original mounting holes, should be the same as the red truck above, mystery solved, holes to fill.

Hard to find our trucks "unmolested" by someone anymore.
That 1927 Whippet would be my focus instead of the truck, (even as much as I love bumps) LOL!
You've got a nice starting point on the truck though.

I putz around with both, the bump right now is a much easier ride to get up and going, the roadster will keep it's original paint, just have to go through the mechanicals and put some tires on it.

Another question for you guys, those alum. rim and tires look much too wide for this truck and was thinking on stock rims with small dish type hubcaps with the rims painted the body color, anyways what year rims would work on the hubs, rims that will hold a small hubcap?
