Here's a thought, since it sold out quick around here, there is obviously a demand for mags that feature something but the old *yawn* Chebbys every issue.
Soooo...leave the Chebbys to Custom Classic Trucks  and do that kind of issue all the time

Wohoo  :woohoo:  , although I guess your advertizers wouldn't see it that way

I picked this mag up last night at one of the local grocery stores... Interesting article, and nice shots of that bump.

I'm not personally too into the chopping/razing/lowering stuff, so I don't know if I'll subscribe, but it was a good read. Being somewhat new to this stuff, I was actually more amazed by the number of ads for repro and retrofit chev parts. Even the old (pre-'67) Fords got some love in the ads. Didn't know whether to feel special or disappointed. haha!

One question... can anyone identify what kind of A/C unit was put in that truck?? The article said it was already there, but it looks nice... fits like a glove, and has lots of vents.

At Classic Trucks we try to show a little of everything and we're one of the only truck mags that still features bone-stock restorations. We do have some "radical" stuff every once in a while, but we try and keep things sensable.
Which truck are you asking about the A/C unit in?

Thanks for the reply... I understand you have to cover as many bases as possible to sell mags and pay the bills. I'll probably pick it up again or keep an eye on it for future articles of interest. If I do that enough times, I'll pick up a subscription. I usually limit the number of mags I subscribe to, or I end up spending all my time in the bathroom.

The A/C I was referring to is the under-dash one installed on the turquoise '67 that you featured on your cover (the lowered shop truck). The only other place I've seen one go all the way across like that was in a 70s model, but I don't know if that was a stock option and whether they retrofit. It looks very seamless.

Well keep checking out Classic Trucks over the next years as I work on my '68, there'll be an article in every issue until it's done. Yeah, the suspension and drivetrain won't be stock but most of the interior and some other stuff will be.

Brent, the owner of the '67, said the A/C was in his truck when he bought it and he assumed it was stock or an old add-on. This would be a good question for everone else here.

I am going to see if the mag is on the shelf on the way home. I just my bill me later payment in the mail yesterday so I can't wait till my subscription starts so I don't have to hunt it down in the stores and get it earlier.

For some additional pictures of dealer-installed underdash A/C units (along with a few factory A/C setups), check out my Photo Gallery at the following link:

Thanks Keith and 71LB... the one in the mag (page 56, I think) was probably closest to this one:

http://www.fordification.com/galleries/ ... m=24&pos=5

It looks really well integrated... a natural extension of the dash. And it hides some of the other stuff hanging out under our dashes as well. =)

Another question, I'm going to put a new dash cluster in my truck and I am trying to decide if I should go for the chrome trim or woodgrain and I was wondering what else in the interior was woodgrain besides that piece under the cluster?

The only factory setup was the big suitcase style:

http://www.fordification.com/galleries/ ... 0Cab12.JPG

Any of the smaller underdash units were dealer add-ons.

A '68 Ranger would only have had the woodgrain instrument panel. A '69 would've also had the woodgrain inserts around the switches, as well as the instrument panel and doorpanel inserts. Of course there's the optional woodgrained vanity panel on the passenger side of the '70-'72 trucks. Trucks with factory A/C also had a woodgrain panel across the front of the A/C box, as pictured above.

But the correct woodgrain clusters for the 68 and 69's is not available. You can only get the ones for the 70-72's and they are slightly different.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.
