$500.00 Parts truck

Post by FoPAR »

Yes believe it or not I just picked this up for $500.00 and drove it home.

It was our company truck and we believe the block cracked. They took it to a shop and had it checked out. It only had compression on 3 cylinders and it looks to be mixing the water and oil. But it did go 10 miles home..... just not very fast. So I'm going to use the seats for my 72 and part out the rest. Should be able to make my money back plus some.

I wonder if you ought to re-think this. What would a used engine cost you? $300-$400? OR a lot less at a pull a part. Stick a used engine in it, get it running right, clean it up real good and sell the whole truck for what? $3000? It is a pretty good looking truck for a new style one. Plus it is a supercab. Interior looks OK and might clean up to look real nice. I don't know what trucks like this go for these days though. $4000? Would you make more parting it out or fixing it and selling it? Do you have a clear title is probably the first issue. Just trying to help you make the most money for fixing up your bump is all.

Nice truck. Looks well wort the money. The seats will be great. Got set like them in mine. Lots of work but well worth it.I dont have center in mine from these seats but itll look good to see one with full seat. Mine has center from another set of seats. Keep us posted on the seat install.

Yeah, I've had many thoughts and talked it over with friends, I think it will come out about the same in the end but the main thing for me is the seats. I have wanted seats like these in my 72 the whole time I have had my truck. So I went looking, first off they are not easy to find and when I did the 2 junk yards that had them wanted $750.00 and the other wanted $800.00 I just paid $500.00 for the whole truck and if I fix it and sell, then I still have to take $700.00 plus and go find the seats again. If I do really bad at parting this out and only make $500.00 off the parts I still got my seats for free. I have other ideas for some of the other parts to so I think it will all work out in the end. But yes it is tempting to see what I could get for the whole thing.

Scrap is up. As of yesterday whole vehicles were paying $13.25 per hundred pounds around here. If all you did was pull the seats and haul the rest of it to the crusher you would prolly make a little money and still get the seats for free. :)

It is great to have use of company equipment and good freinds that you work with who are willing to come and help. I needed to pull the cab off of the truck and this made it real easy.
