Collecting and Restoring Gauge Clusters

Post by 69Ford »

My wife keeps on saying don't you have enough and another shows up. Now I'm looking at another F500 gauge cluster on Ebay. I currently have 7 Clusters. Two completely restored
two rattle canned rest for parts. The F500 set has all NOS gauges in it. I have the originals for backup. problem is I only have one truck. Here's pictures. Not completely sold on the
white gauges yet. If you notice the white gauge cluster has ribbed background. does anybody know if they make a repo of this cluster. The bottom one in the picture is a repo of the
flat background one.

I wouldn't stop until I had one of every variation! You're still missing a wood grain/Ranger cluster from your collection. And I've seen multiple variations for F500/F600, bumpside through dentside era. :D

As far as obsessions go this one seems relatively tame. It's not like your breaking any commandments...unless your coveting your neighbor's gauges.

Its a disease. This is all a disease. The sooner you can admit it the better. You need help. Surround yourself with like people. That being said, i'd suggest the parts section under wanted of this site, ebay, your local criagslist and local wrecking yards. you def need the ranger trim guage cluster for your collection. Like I said you need help.....in finding the ones you need fo your collection.

I believe I have a 69 Ranger wood grain instrument cluster bezel with original gauges. If you want it send me a P.M. we can work it out after that.

I actually have the wood grain one just not pictured or good shape. Don't know which one I here they changed the wood grain I believe in the 70 model. Also I do not have the 70 and up F500 cluster yet. The gauges and face plate changed that year. I have no circuit board clusters since my truck is a 69 pre circuit board. Does anybody know if you can have plastic rechromed? I don't believe anybody makes a repo of the custom cab bezel with the ribbed background. Or
if I could find a mint condition one out there in truck land. I'm getting to know these clusters pretty good if anybody has questions

Yes you can have plastic re chromed according to what I have read. You can also check out Motostorm Chrome or something like it. I have not tried it myself, but I would use a spray on if it looked right.

Here's a couple more pics. White gauges with blue LED's. I also painted the plate behind the faceplate white. And one more pic of the F500 gauges.

1969 trucks had a teak colored vinyl on the cluster, while other years had a darker colored vinyl.

Just bought another F500 gauge cluster of Ebay. It was posted buy it know now or best offer. I gave an offer I thought would be rejected now I'm the owner.
I'm wondering if there would be any interest in completely restored clusters. There are so many NOS and used gauges out there for sale cheap if you look
enough. I'm throughing around the idea of restoring these clusters with repo bezels Plug and Play. Maybe use LED bulbs White gauges or whatever somebody
would want. Is there anybody out there that already does this. Right now its just an Idea. I will take pictures of my new cluster as I restore it. Thanks
