OT Anyone know anything about bulldozers

Post by OldRedFord »

Im working on a old Cat D8 from the 1950s.

It dropped a intake valve and took out a piston and a cylinder head.

What are the chances of having to replace the main bearings and rod bearings?

Not sure about engines like that, but in my experience with other engines, unless there was some pretty good damage illustrated on the piston, you're probably OK to leave the bottom end alone.
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

or, money.

Well, you'll likely have to replace one rod bearing, but it really depends how it was serviced when it was new. Low RPM wasn't too hard on them, but they also didn't stop much to be serviced.
