Need help with a VIN number...

Post by 1970 SportCustom »

Hello everyone. I am a new member and not sure if I am posting this in the right place or not but I'll give it a try.

So here's the story: I picked up a 1970 f100 Sport Custom last week and the vin is F10GCJ85994 which (as I'm sure you know) means that the truck was built in Aug 1970. The truck has a '71 grill and power disk brakes which I have been told are factory.

Is this truck a true 1970 since that is what the vin says or would it be considered a 1971 since it was built so late in the year and has the options listed above????

Thanks for any help you can give!

Based on http://www.fordification.com/tech/VIN71.htm it seems entirely possible it is actually a 1971.

I don't think it is possible that the power disc are factory though...

This is what your VIN says
F10GCJ85994
F100
302 cid V8
Ontario Canada
Aug 1970
1971 Model Year
I believe it is a 71 Is the steering wheel Three small spoke's 1970, or two larger more modern spokes 1971. This will be a way to tell. Here's a pic of the 1970 wheel.

I tried to post a few pictures but it keeps telling me that the files are too large.

You can also double check the VIN that is stamped on the frame to see if they match in case the door tag isn't the original.

Where would it be located on the frame?
