Photobucket's 3rd party hosting scheme...

Post by Ranchero50 »

Lots of pics getting locked out from Photobucket this week. Looks like they want me to do a $399 per year contract to allow 3rd party hosting.

This is not good... :cuss:

Any other more better hosting sited out there?

Also smugmug.

I would never pay Photobucket ransom, even if it were a reasonable price. The way they handled it is a PR nightmare and I doubt that Photobucket will survive it.

Go to P-bucket and download your albums to your hard drive.

The pics will stick around for a while. They want the add pages and they don't get them through 3rd party hosting. That being said I'll populate another host with the pics over time. If you download the whole album from what I've been reading they delete the account. I'm not ready to go there yet.

I have local copies of all my pics. I dont trust any cloud based or host service to actually keep my files safe. Photobucket is un-usable now since the page keeps moving and shifting around loading all the ads; you cant even try to do anything on there now. I expect a slow death of the site.

Imgur's TOU says they don't like 3rd party and will close your account if they catch you doing it excessively.

Yeah, SmugMug is not free, but it ain’t 400.00 a year either. If you poke around on ADV (Adventure Rider) you’ll probably find a discount code for SmugMug.

The one thing Photobucket has said that I agree with is that the “free” business model probably isn’t sustainable.

Another option is to register a domain and a hosting package. It still a good bit cheaper than Photobucket's ransom.

LITERALLY...KICKED THE BUCKET TO THE CURB!

I too doubt they will survive this corporate greed where they're trying to keep up with cloud based / revenue based "support" with our pictures.
As far as I'm concerned they went downhill about 5-7 years ago once they started hosting ads that slowed the site down to a crawl. I refuse to allow my gigabit data that cost more and more every single day to control me like that.

Sad days indeed as my story and so many other folks here stories were told using the bucket-no more for me.
And for all you new guys who didn't realize this...we always helped Kieth out with the site here once a year by "fundraising" as you've probably never noticed that there are no "banner ads" clogging up your feed here, (like your suupermotors and foordtrucks.coom)! Kieth hosts this website out of the generosity of his own goodwill with no funding from outside sources guys! Way...past time to give him some help again unless you want this page clogged like photobucket full of pop up ads!

Deleted all my images, (I dang sure won't allow them to keep or steal them from me) even though I know they have them backed up and...

DELETED MY PHOTOBUCKET ACCOUNT! :cuss:
