Can you help identify this truck??

Post by chutchin »

Hi everyone. A friend of mine directed me to the resources on this site to identify a truck that has come across my radar.

I am wondering about the exact year of the truck. I have used the VIN decoder and my hangup (based on how I read it) was the VIN shows a 2wd but this truck is 4wd. Maybe I am just looking at it wrong. I am trying to zero in on the correct parts to purchase for brake line repair. It does have power brakes. Attached are a few pics I could get.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Its not unheard of to have a body swapped or a door swapped on from another truck over time.....

Can you find a VIN stamped on the frame?

What engine is in the truck?

Any indication of the original color somewhere other than the door with the ID plate? What color is the interior?

FWIW a quick decode makes that as a early 68 production... 2 WD F100 with Harbor Blue Paint and Blue Vinyl Interior, 360...

Oh absolutely I know it's possible. I just wanted to get some opinions before I proceeded.
Thanks

I was told it was a 70's model...I know I come across as a retard, but there were just too many different kits in the LMC catalog.

The interior is blue. It has a 360.

I was thinking F100 4x4 were only short beds? (I could easily be wrong)

The grills inserts are made from expanded metal?

My decode agrees with 1972hiboy but the grill surround that is there do not look like 68 parts to me.

We need more investigation (and pictures)

1) Is there an id number on the top of either frame rail near the axle?
2) Is there any sign of frame modification (splicing, crossmember removal, adding the straight front axle)?
3) is there evidence that the body or parts of it was another color?

Does the transmission match the ID plate?

More pictures please.

See also http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm this will help nail it down too.

My initial impression is it is a collection of parts from at least two trucks, but we need more information.

You've definitely got a mutt there. 68 door tag (and body?), 70+ grill and valance, 2wd door tag with a 4wd front axle. Frame vin is definitely the next thing I'd be looking for, see if it matches the door tag or the 4wd.

DuckRyder there were definitely factory F100 4x4 long beds, I've got one.

VIN stamped on the frame is what you need to find as this will tell you a lot about the truck. Might have been a simple door swap without the door tag being changed.

Passenger side frame rail is where you will find the VIN. One in the engine bay area the other on top of the rail under the cab.

SOLVED

Found the VIN on the frame. Does come back to what the truck is (I believe). F11YKN8235 Says its a 72 4WD with a 360.

Thanks for the help.
