1967 SWB Ranger

Postby 5oh on Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:19 am

I purchased this truck from the original owner in April of 2012. The truck was originally purchased from Bob Bales Ford in Morristown, TN. The previous owner ordered a new truck from them in 1985. Under the impression it would take several weeks for his new truck to be delivered, he had the engine rebuilt and a new clutch installed. He drove the truck for about 2 weeks afterwards and his new truck was delivered. This truck was then retired to barn life where I found it.

Rust wise its in pretty good shape. The bed has been hit and repaired at some point and the job wasn't done very well. I could patch it, but I'm really looking for a better bed. (arent we all!)

Floors are solid, even the cab mounts seem to be in good shape. Biggest issues are brakes, Fuel tank, and then the bed.

I've already rebuilt all the brake cylinders and flushed the lines, so now he stops. I'm currently replacing the in cab tank with a fuel cell under the bed.

Long term goals: Hmmm I'd like to be able to drive it. LOL But I'm thinking Big Block with a 4 speed and drop it with some 15x8's on the front and 15X10's on the back.

First Update:

Here is a picture of the fuel cell mounted. I've seen the cell mounted backwards so the sump is to the front. This would allow the cell to be tucked up against the frame rails better, but I want the sump to the back like intended. I'm using some spacers on the back side of the cell to allow it to hang level. Kind of rigged until I come up with a better plan.

Fuel lines and cutting a hole in the bed for access to the fill are next.

Quick update.

My daughter and I put the first coat of chalkboard paint on the rolling blackboard. Still need to trim it out, but stunned how well this paint covered.

Chalkboard paint is just what it says. Paint for making chalkboards. It is actually an interior paint. My daughter wanted a chalkboard in her room, so I picked up a quart at Lowes. After painting one of her walls, I went outside and tried it on a section of the truck. I'm not sure how durable it is, but so far it works great.

Looking good, I like the new wheels and tires. What size are the wheels and tires?

Wheels are Bassett D-Hole 15x8
Tires 245/60/15 on the front and 295/50/15 on the back.

Thanks for the compliments. My daughter (12) and her friends love to get the chalk out and draw all over it. Quick spray with the hose and its all gone.

I installed a 3 G alternator on the racetruck today.
Disregard for the yellow junkyard grease pencil writing. I'll clean it off tomorrow.
