Looks like you got it figured out. Mine only had the three spots out of four on my plug. Even my spare had an empty slot. Looked like you old one. Good luck hope she fires for ya

Is your negative wire coming from the battery red? I have my negative hooked straight to the block. Make sure your connections are clean shiny metal also; 100 grit sandpaper cleans them up fast

Yes previous person had the negative as a red cable but negative on the battery. I learned that quick. Lol
Tore into my under the dash mess. It amazes me the wires i took out. Didnt run at 1st. I bypassed the regulator like it says to here under ignition trouble shoot. It fired. So i swapped out back to my old new regulator. Runs good.
Got it running and warmed up. Sat in the cab to find oil on the passenger floor.
The oil pressure gauge tube was old and brittle. I could snap it like spaghetti before u cooked it. So i went down and got new gauge and hose kit. Added one of my led liscence plate light bolt thingys as well. The other one i couldnt get un done.
Need to hook my brake lights back up in the morning after work. Than im on to my brakes and tranny work.
Probably more wire clean up and cab cleaning as well.

Idk what i did to my brake lights lol. I still have some wiring to do. By some i mean a lot for me. I can only seem to get one of my kool.led.liscence plate lights to work.
Found out tonight i have a buzzer in my driver side tail light. Lol
Nieghbors prob loved that. Ripped it out. My panel lights now.flicker and act funky. Uhg.
Went to my 1st ever swap meet. That was kool. Bought some stuff didnt even need or wrong stuff but thats ok. Learning exp and in ready for another.
Alternator down and on to my wiring i guess.

ok. glanced at the master wiring diagram on here. THXS fordificatioN!
looks like my 2 brake wires plug into each other and than into the positive side of the lil box and to the mechanical brake switch. I know also my blinkers are tide into it and that's why those are acting up. Hopefully ill have some wind left in me to get on the job in the morning. Gonna bridge my wires for my license plate. Just some more cutting and crimping. Idk why it wouldn't work all tide together. Maybe too much current build up...?
We will see.

I would just hook both your license plate lights together and then to one of your tail lights running lights. Then the license plate lights are only on when you pull your headlights on. Wiring is a bit of trial and error

Thats what i did man! If i hook em both up that way. My blinkers.go backwards. And i can turn the knob to dome.light and get clicking like my emergency lights are flashing. And both plate lights dont work. No problem running one. Lol.

Also my brake lights are a no go. Ive got blinkers.working. emergency. Tail lights headlights one liscence plate light.
Got an apt on the 28th i think it is to get the truck wiring fixed. I asked to get me brake lights. Both liscence.plate.lights and put my mirror on. Lol. I know. Im lazy.
The wiring i was just done with. Urgh.

Make sure both license plate lights have a good ground. I bet that's your problem, the one isn't grounding and it screws everything else up. Use sand paper on all your grounds.

alternator sounds like a whining dog. Back on page 1 I replaced the alternator. I got a remanufactured one for around $80 I think it was. Well it had a warranty I think so ill be taking the truck down to the auto store to get my charging system checked and if they will replace that alt I bought maybe a month ago and has 3 drives on it if that.

Is the alt getting warm? You might have the wiring buggered and the field is pushing a max load. You can also pop the belt off and see if it's noisy when spun by hand. Also be wary that there were several different regulator wiring configurations depending on whether you have gauges or warning lamps. It really does matter to do it correctly.

Per your wiring mess. Once it works correctly, fix it by removing every crimp connector from front to back. Solder and shrink wrap all the connections. Add some dialectic grease to the exposed stuff under the hood and chassis. Wonky wiring will kill your enthusiasm for the truck quickly.

You can also put and + and - on the correct battery cables or wrap black electrical tape on the negative one. Flipping the battery connections is hard on the electrics. No Lucas on a Ford.

no lucas, meaning no good? I think I read I can take the belt off and start it up and that will tell me too. I sprayed belt conditioner and no change in sound. I could get my alt belt tight but my pwr steering one isn't as tight. I thought It was that at 1st. Is it possible I tightened the new belt too tight? I figured tight was good.

I left the truck hooked up over night. Started up. Hoping my drain is gone. I tested battery output I think it was 12.98?! and alt was 9.08?!
I didn't get a chance to put the battery on the charger to get a %. Id have to test again and put my hand on it to get warmth. Kinda scary with that fan spinning next on it. :)
I agree hooking it up correctly is the idea which is why its going to the pros.
ill prob use the shop for road bumps and blocks I cant get over or around during the build.

Im not a pro but a younger fellow trying to learn hands on and reading.
I figured since I was getting a reading on the back of the alt, my fusible link was good.
Thank you for the wiring clean up tips. That needs work and I intend to address that when I get it back from the shop. :/ Hopefully I can get my brakes done up and light tranny work before I have to get it there.

I will eventually one day pull the drive train stuff and replace. My shocks and front suspension needs a rebuild 1st! :woohoo:
body and paint will be last?!
thxs for the response.

question. Can the soldered points touch? Or do I need to wrap em/heat shrink em individually before together.
