Ford Automatic Transmission ID Guide posted

Post by FORDification »

As I was sittin' on the throne this afternoon :P and reading through my vast collection of car magazines, I happened to be sifting through the 12/02 issue of Car Craft and ran across an excellent article about Ford automatic transmissions, including the various flavors of factory overdrives. Although the article is a few years old, it still contains some very useful information, so I thought I'd transcribe and post it here. One of the main reasons I decided to do so was the number of overdrive-related questions that's been posted lately, so I felt this would be a great primer course for folks researching their options. It's some very informative reading...I learned a lot myself! Check it out:

Here is a application and info guide I've been working on.

I'd be happy to let ya copy the works on here as well, but I usually find something to edit once a week as I continue my never ending quest for info.

Adrianspeeder,

I was looking at yours and have a question...My 69 F100 4x4 with 390ci had an NP435 in it...your thing says only 302 and 300, mostly 300.

It ran like a scalded dog...of course, the gearing was low and slow...but no problems whatsoever.
