Some new tutorial/pictorials coming....about doors

Post by FORDification »

I spent the day at the shop yesterday disassembling a couple doors for my project, and took some pictures. Well, actually, after everything was said and done I took 484 pictures. I took pictures of every single step of door disassembly, down to the bare shell. I also took lots of closeups for comparison (of '67 and '68-up doors) and detail (I LOVE the macro-focus feature on this new camera!!), so I've got enough to actually write up several tutorials, like how to replace the window and/or door regulators, glass, etc. I also took measurements of the factory mirror-mount holes for the Jr. West Coast SwingLocs, the Camper Special mirror, the sport mirror, and the tripod-style mirror.

From checking out the doors I was planning on using on my project, it appears that the '67 driver's door I was planning to use probably isn't going to make the cut, so it's very possible I'll be converting a '68 door to a '67.

I got started putting a few things together last night after getting home and realized that I'm still missing a few pictures, so I'll be headed back to the shop for a few hours this afternoon to get those. Then I'll have enough ammo to keep me busy for a while in the evenings. :D

Here are a couple sneak-peak pics:

how do you get time to actually work on your truck?
sounds like another great addition (or 3) to this fine site!

Im looking forward to the part on the W Coast mirrors. Could you put something in on the sequence of the nuts, acorn nuts, washers, nylon washers, lock washers, etc and the direction theyre supposed to be installed? :D jz

I know this is a really old thread, but did this tutorial ever happen? If not, are the pictures available somewhere? I was searching for exactly that information as I am at that stage on a project... :fr:

I have a copy of the 2008 Dennis Carpenter catalog saved as a PDF file. If you PM me your email address I will send it to you. Starting on page 127 of the catalog is an excellent tutorial on rebuilding the internals of a door.
