How's your Ford truck parts knowledge?

#22 - Aug. 29, 2008

Here's one that'll either totally stump you or you'll know right off.

Image

This piece measures app. 14" x 8" in this view. What you can't see is the depth, which is app. 9".

What is it, and what was it used for on what trucks?

(I'll show some other views of this item afterwards.) Good luck!

This is  dumb guess but is it the cover to the gas filler hose to the tank under the bed of the truck. The auxiliary one?

AWW SHOOT! I'll go ahead and guess.....

It's the sheetmetal bracket that holds the inner fender to the firewall of the cab. :2cents:

OK, since there haven't been as many guesses as I thought, I'll give you guys a hint...

This is actually a pretty rare piece...I doubt very many of you have actually seen one. As a matter of fact, I just updated a page on the site with several other pictures of this piece, along with CAD schematics showing the dimensions (which were developed and shared by a forum user)...but I ain't gonna tell you where it is...yet. :P

Very few trucks actually came with this, it's part of a special-order option.

I'll call this one good!   (Sorry Mike, Wes beat you this time.) ;) Yes, this is the mounting bracket for the fenderwell-mounted Onan generator. I ran across these pictures that I'd completely forgotten I even had.

Anyway, the additional pictures of this mounting bracket along with the CAD drawings put together by a forum member (who hasn't been on the forums for quite a while now) has been posted to the Onan generator page at the following URL:
