New Intake & Edelbrock carb vs stock

Postby 68FORDJBM on Fri Jun 29, 2012 11:54 am

I have a rebuilt Holly 2300 dbbl barrel carb on a stock manifold and I'm considering jumping up to a double plane intake/Edelbrock carb kit which has 4 barrels. I'm rebuilding my 360 FE and basicallt trying to improve fuel economy. Will this help or hurt. I've already heard too many opinions and therefore I'm confused. I'd like to hear the opinions and expereience from those who may have actually been there and done that.

Thanks

You will not be disappointed with a dual plane Edelbrock intake, and 600cfm carb.  I would get the manual choke model.  Performance will greatly increase, and economy 'can' if you tune the carb right.  These carbs are really easy, and fast to tune.  Get a needle/spring/jet kit, and experiment until it feels right, has good response, and runs clean.  Pull plugs and check.

Thanks Joseph! I'm getting closer to going that direction. I will check with my engine re-build guy first to make sure it will match up in the end

I used the 600 Edelbrock on my 360. I used a 4BBL cast iron truck manifold from a dentside tho. From what I have read on here other than the weight it delivers roughly the same performance as the aluminum would. So far I have been VERY pleased with the combo. It provides me an extremely smooth and reliable daily driver to work and around town and still maintains some pretty impressive performance on long trips even in the mountains where I live on extended trips and interstate travel. My fuel mileage is up but that is partly due to replacing the cylinder heads  with the ones from the dentside. My original ones had a couple of damaged valves and one of those had a good sized chunk burned out of it . The gearing in my truck is probably much lower than yours and my truck probably weighs a bit more. On my trip down to South Carolina recently it still delivered a pretty steady 11 to 12 MPG.

I'm a fan of electric chokes, set 'em right once and never worry about it again.
