Ignition coil wiring

Post by Homey253 »

Hello,
I'm new to the site and having some issues with my truck so I figured I would join the forum to see if anyone can give me some advice while I start working on my project. I recently picked up a 67 f100 with 352 v8. I just replaced the points, condenser and the coil, I went to fire it up and had a wire start smoking to the coil. I didn't mark the wires when I took them off so I know I hooked something up wrong, there is 4 wires but I'm not sure which side of the coil they go to. Any advice on how to hook them up properly or a wiring diagram would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

:wel: from Georgia! Only got a minute so here's a diagram to start you on your troubleshooting. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... gauges.jpg. If your wiring is original you should only have 2 wires to the coil. A black one from the distributor to the - side of the coil and a red with green stripe to the + side of the coil. The red/green wire comes from a 3 prong plug near the firewall. The other 2 wires of this plug go to the temp sender (red/white) and oil pressure sender (white/red).

Thanks for the reply. I think I have the wires in the right order, one of the wires I figured out was from an aftermarket tach so I just left that off for now. The other wire comes from where the coil is held down I'm not sure if that's a ballast resistor or not? But I hooked everything back up and can't get the truck to fire but I don't have anymore smoking wires. Are there any fuses or relays I should be checking as well?

Have you checked your voltage at the solenoid and at the coil to determine if power is even getting to the coil? And you had a wire going from the coil mounting bracket to the coil? What's up with that?
