Quick Acceleration Stall

Post by Ford4Fun »

I have an ongoing problem I hope some of you can help me with which direction to go to fix it. When in park or driving, if I push on the accelerator with any kind of aggression, other than gingerly, I hear a pop in the carburetor and the engine dies or continues on. I have done this while under the hood (in park of course Ha ha!) and while quickly gunning the accelerator again the pop and sometimes a flash of a flame comes out of the carburetor. I have been told that maybe all I need is a simple cleaning of the carb, or maybe adjustments. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info or pics. Thanks!

An intake valve is open while the cylinder is firing. That means a timing issue.... or a valve train problem.

verify timing and go back to OEM settings.

A throttle tip in "sneeze" is usually not enough gas upon opening. Timing and other things can affect it for sure. Like 427stang said, start with the carb and then search beyond.
