Re: ground straps
There is a small one, 8 gauge I believe, at the back of the intake manifold with the other end fastening to the firewall.
The negative battery cable goes to a large headed bolt on the right side of the block behind the alternator and under the front exhaust manifold port approximately.

Re: ground straps
And another one under the solenoid mount bolt will help starting,
and one to the rad support will help keep the lights bright.
This isn't the way Ford did it , but in Michigan where things get rusty it helps.

Re: ground straps
I ran a ground from the battery negative to the voltage regulator bolt. The same one they use to ground the voltage regulator to the radiator support. Everything metal that doe's not carry battery current should be grounded with a good mechanical bond back to the battery. Prevents stray voltage or resisted voltage causing a major headache trying to trace. Also if there is a short to a solidly grounded part it will blow the fuse instead of heating up and causing other damage. My first step in trouble shooting is to check for a good ground.

Re: ground straps
The electical systems on these trucks are pretty much bare bones. But so simple that a bad ground can wreak havoc.
I suggest everyone install additional grounds to electrically bond all of the truck's grounded/grounding components:
Cab to frame
Bed to frame
Core support to frame
Engine to cab (8 gauge)
Engine to frame (A bellhousing bolt works great)
.

Re: ground straps
Ditto on what HIO Silver said.. you can't have too many grounding straps but too few or too small of a wire can be a pain in the butt. I had a 73 Gran Torino that the ground wire had broken about halfway thru. It made it act like the battery was weak or the starter was dragging. A ground strap from a 951 Caterpillar loader solved that problem.

Re: ground straps
I forgot one. Behind the instrument cluster at the firewall, at least there is on my 69.

Re: ground straps
This thread happened at the perfect time, chasing electrical problems. This answers a lot of questions. When you run the ground to the intake, what do you do if the intake is aluminum?

Re: ground straps
Lots of homes have been wired with aluminum wiring. It doesn't conduct as well as iron but it should be fine. Good question.
