460 swap

Post by David67 »

Hello, I have a 67 f100 with a factory 240 6 cyl., 3 sp manual trans. I am considering a swap to a 460/c6 that I have access to. The eng and trans are coming out of a 70's lincoln, not sure of the exact year. My question is, what, if any, are the differences in a ford 460 motor vs. a lincon 460? I plan to use the motor supports from a truck that had a 460 from the factory. Thanks in advance for any info.

You will not be able to use the trans from the lincoln as it should have a real goofy trans mount,I found out when I installed a lincoln motor in a 71 country squire and had to go to a junkyard and get a ford trans.

Try this as the 429 and 460 are almost the same...

Thanks for the information. I have a C6 with the correct bolt pattern I can put behind this 460. What prompted my initial question was that I came across an ad (I can't remember where now) for 460 conversion stands and mounts that stated "not for Mercury or Lincoln motors". That made me think maybe there were differences in the motor mount bosses on the engine or something. I'm more familiar with FE motors, just getting into the 385 type. Thanks again, this is a great forum!

As far as I know there is no difference. I put a Lincoln 460 in a truck and used Ford truck mounts.

You were probably looking at L&L mounts ( http://www.landlproducts.com/ford429460f1001506cyl.htm ). I do not recall what the differences were, maybe oil pan. Click on their "conact us" link and send them the question. Let us know what you find out as I am curious too. I'm doing the same conversion, but with a truck 460.

It was LMC Truck magazine. Page 105 they list a swap kit for 2WD 65-72 Pickups to put in a Ford 429/460. "Includes mount brackets and bushings , not for Lincoln or Mercury motors" FYI, it is part number 45-0368. I'll try and get up with them and ask about this disclaimer about the Linc/Merc engines. I'll post back when I find out.

I would bet that LMC is just reselling the L&L adapters. I ordered some interior parts along time ago from them and they came from Fairlane.
