NP435 with married Dana 21 to NP205

Post by Soonersteve »

I apologize if I was not able to locate an answer to this in the history of this thread.

I have a 1975 Ford F100 4x4. It has an NP435 with a married Dana 21. I am considering moving to the more popular NP205. Is this a simple swap? Most discussions I find are related to converting an NP435 2x4.
Any thoughts or considerations I should hear before looking for an NP205?

Thanks all for your advice!

No joy.. your married Dana 21 is attached to a 2WD version of the NP435 which has a "square pattern".. You'll need a 4WD NP435 with the trapezoidal pattern.

Information here: https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t ... ual/np435/

It's simple if you get both the NP205 and NP435 from the same 4WD donor since the NP will have the required (long) output shaft and intermediate adapter housing.

You're welcome.

I was in the same situation with my 73 4x4. Early last summer I happened upon a 4WD 76 with an FE/435/205 combo and had to make some quick calls to get the same info that I passed on to you in this thread.

You shouldda seen the "rig" I pieced together at the Pick N Pull to get the T-case and tranny out. McGyver would have been proud! My lil Radio Flyer wagon was loaded to the hilt. Loading the trans and t-case up was another vein-popping experience! The 435 and 205 are still awaiting my rebuild prior to installation.

LOL. I bet it was a beauty! Send some pics. Did you have to do any other mods to support the new tranny and transfer case, or was it an easy plug-and-play exercise for you?
