Late model power steering work on a bump?

Post by canadiancobra »

Hey guys. I'm installing a 88 mustang 5.0efi /aod in my 72 and wondering if the mustang pump which is setup for rack and pinion will work with the ps Saginaw steering box from a 72? Or do I need to locate a 70s pump and install the serpentine pulley on it? Anyone done this ?

Haven't done it yet but I intend too. Using the serpentine belt set up from an '87 F150 and got all the brackets from the donor.

Did either of you do this? I'm about to do the exact same thing and would love to know if it didn't work....

Haven't actually installed it yet but I have everything to do so. No reason to think it won't. The pump is capable of working the Saginaw box just fine. As long as you have components to match your block the worst your have to deal with is pulley spacing. Is you're going serpentine be sure to get a reverse flow water pump.

The PS pump on the Fox Mustang 5.0L EFI engine is a Ford C-II PS pump. --same PS pump I put on my '69 F100 inline 240 from an '82 Bullnose F150 inline 300.

....I also have the complete 5.0L EFI engine from a 1990 Mustang GT that's likely to replace the 240 in my '69 Ranger. It still has the C-2 pump mounted to the front of the engine.

The C-2 pump was used from 1978 through the early 2000s on Ford cars and trucks.

Yes, it will work. Hard part is finding the correct hose.
