Front wheel hub

Post by rabbithunter2005 »

So I heard a squealing noise on the drivers side front end while driving today pulled the 4x4 locking hub off found all kind of metal powder and metal chunks laying behind the hub which tells me my wheel bearing is shot well right now I can't get the wheel bearing to break loose I actually got mad and smacked the wheel hub itself trying to get the bearing and hub off but they won't budge and now it looks like the hammer move cost me dearly cause my hub is now dented to the point that ill never get the locking hub back in there. Soooooo 2 questions question 1 is how can I get the bearings to break loose question 2 where can I find the actual wheel hub itself not the locking hub the actual part that the wheel drum and wheel bolt to. I am searching the internet for wheel hub for Dana 44 closed knuckle but no luck so far all that comes of are the warn or spice locking hubs.

Those are gonna be real hard to find :( I would look for a parts truck with the open knuckle 44.When I did the cummins swap in my '68 I was able to find a '76 parts truck and got the 44 and a 205 T case basically for free after parting out the rest and if i hadn't had to pay $350.00 to have it hauled home 300 miles i would have made money but I had the room and time to part it out................ :2cents:

Decide how far you are willing to look/go to get one and hie craigs list depending on where you live you might have luck that route farm country and the oil patch are good hunting grounds

Yeah I figured as much I found a high pinion Dana 44 from a 79 f250 in the junkyard for 100 bucks just ran the axle code it has the 410 ratio I need so gonna get it out by the end of the week order some brake hoses and get the proportioning valve off the truck so I can convert to disc brakes just didn't wanna go that far but my Dana 44 needs kingpin bearings and the wipers and everything and its gonna cost more than 100 for that. this HP Dana has brand new brake pads on but the rotor is rusty nothing the wire wheel can't fix I plan on greasing the wheel bearings on it as well and all the ball joints I guess we will see what happens.

You'll be way better off in the long run that axle is still supported parts wise and the disks will actually stop your truck when it's needed :2cents:
