disc brake conversion help

Post by takehikes »

I have a 68 F100 with a 240 in it. I want to put power disc on the front but have no desire to change out the I beams or use junk yard parts. However all the conversion kits I find are brutally expensive. I'm wondering if there is something out there that has been used and is reasonably priced. Also would it cut the price (and performance) a lot if I didn't go power disc and just went to manual disc? Suggestions? Ideas? send money! LOL

Probably one of the best swaps is the one you don't want to do and that's the one using donor parts from a Dentside '73-'79 F100 or a '75-'79 150.

I've done this swap twice --on my '69 F100 Ranger using the front discs/entire front suspension from a '77 F100 and again on a '72 F100 Sport Custom using the front discs/entire front suspension from a '75 F100/F150 (not sure which series the parts came off of since it was a frame only with the suspension still intact on the donor and no body on it).

Both work really well.

Google Scarebird, he makes a bracket that uses your stock spindle with GM calipers and Dodge pickup rotors. The brackets are about $200 your total depends on what you can buy the rest of the parts for. One nice thing about doing it this way is you can spread it out over a couple of months. You can find pictures in my build thread.
