Bleeding Brakes & Master Cylinder

Post by SemperFi »

Hello,
I have a '73 F100
I replaced all the Brake Lines and Hoses.
When I checked the Master Cylinder, there was no brake fluid.
I didn't think to check to see how low it had gotten, before filling up the reservoir.
I know, It had gotten fairly low.
I am under the impression, you have to bleed the Master Cylinder, if it gets too low or dry..

I still have to bleed the brakes. I am unclear, as I bleed the brakes; will there be any indicators that
there may be issues with the Master Cylinder (from getting too low in brake fluid) ?

Thank you for your help.

Running it empty one time should not have damaged the seals in the master cylinder.
Start "from scratch" and bench bleed the master cylinder, (on the truck using the plastic fittings and small hoses that come with rebuilt MC).
You should be able to see all the air escaping the MC. Once done there go to the farthest wheel and bleed working your way to the DS front wheel the last. A mityvac tool here is a life saver.
