Replacing C6 Column Shift Lever

Post by treverd »

71' F100, C6 P/S

Existing shift lever has the black plastic knob on the end. I want to replace it with a all chrome shift lever.

Am I able to do this with the column intact?
Drive out the roll pin, keep spring in place, install new shift lever, drive in roll pin?

Thanks guys,
Trever

Yes you can do this in the truck without having to remove the column. There is a small spring behind the bottom of the metal shift lever, (not being shown here) that returns the shift lever back to the "forward" position if memory serves me correctly:

This may be useful. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=72274 Like Jeff said ( ), there is a small, spring loaded, plunger under the tip of the shift lever. It makes it easier if you can push that down when you stick the lever back in the housing. Go ahead and replace the rubber insulator on the the shift lever while you're at it. http://dennis-carpenter.com/gear-shift- ... 1a-7246-b/ You might have to remove the tube flange and that can be frustrating to reinstall. Just be patient and methodical and you can get it back on. There's enough slack in the TSS wiring harness to be able to pull it up and out of your way.
