Hydro boost with stock ford master cylinder?

Post by briansbronco »

OK this new 69 f250 4x4 is needing a master cylinder. Knew it when I bought it and have a new one in the box to go in it. Here's the question. When adding hydro boost, can I use the stock drum brake master or do I need to change it out for something else? Looking forward the truck will be getting a 4BT Cummings diesel and a ZF5 transmission. Not for a while until I can assemble parts.

I know I'll need to add a power steering pump but that's not hard to do. I already have a hydroboost setup that I believe will work fine. My truck is manual steering and is likely to stay that way. Even after the diesel swap.

You should be able to install a master cylinder onto the hydroboost. In past with broncos have had some master cylinders work terrible on some hydroboost. One 74' bronco i know of actually wound up working best with a corvette master cylinder. You best bet is to put it on see what you get. Question is why stay manual steering with all that other work? :? Seems power would be the best choice. especially with a heavy 4BT

It might get swapped at some point, I'm just not going to be in a hurry about it. I have everything to do all the upgrades here I think with the exception of the core 4bt. That will take a little doing. I was a Cummings certified tech before retirement. I want a smooth as silk 4bt that makes about 170 hp.

I did not know a smooth a silk 4bt existed  . I'm a Detroit guy fiddle with Cummins as well but 4bt is not my forte so take your word for it. Didn't some have balance shafts like the 50 Detroit some not???? :?

I built a balanced and blueprinted 4bt that you could sit a coke can on top of and it wouldn't make it fizzy....LOL I want to do another one. The only major drawback to them is heat. They produce a LOT of it. I see a ton of them in builds but most are folks that don't know their eye from a hole in the ground so I can't blame them. They just don't know any better.

That's impressive. I have not done too much work on them. Most of my stuff i've worked on is 8.3c and bigger n14 855 some ancient 743's. But i am a powerstroke, Detroit Diesel guy. Nothing wrong with the little cummins just have not really built one. Hope you find a core would love to watch that build!

Yeah I got some parts to put on the chopping block to hopefully fund it. All I need is a buildable core and my machine shop.
