72 disk brake conversion

Post by twalsh357 »

I am looking for recommendations on companies that build brake conversion kits. I have manual bakes with drums and want to convert to power with 4 wheel disk. Any suggestions? 72 F100 360 automatic
Thanks

Here's a thread where a member did the Scarebird conversion on the front (Thanks smpstech!). Looks pretty simple. http://w.fordification.com/forum/viewto ... =5&t=86405
I see on their site that they also have similar brackets for the rear although I've never seen them installed.

I’ve kind of been wondering if it would be possible to use F250 front disk brakes on an F100 and re-drill the rotor...

If you have not already check out:

I feel 4 wheel disc is a waste of money. Not really enough weight on the rear axle to make a noticeable difference in braking performance.

Too much work, F250 usually had larger brakes front and rear. You would need to balance the bias in the rear brakes and this may not be possible as wheel cylinders size and drum sizing may not be possible on the F100 without changing the rear axle housing to have the matching brakes for proper bias. Also wheel fitment may be harder to locate as you will need wheels to clear the larger F250 brakes but have the smaller F100 bolt pattern. IIRC the F100 uses 12" drums while the F250 disc is 12.5" alone. Huge difference in space needed to clear the rotor/caliper on the F250.
You would end up with a Frankenstein monster of parts that would require keeping tabs on what parts are what. The more custom the more cost.

Use the Scarebird conversion or find a Dent F100/F150 5 lug disc setup.

Depends on how the owner will use the truck.
Rear discs will allow more consistent braking and much easier modulation of the rear brakes.

Love the MC / booster / pro valve setup you used. Did the pedal come out to a normal released position or did you have to use an adjustable rod on the linkage? :hmm:

Sweet powdercoating job on the spindles too! :)

I just duplicated the stock rod length. The pedal is exactly where it was with the stock booster.

Thanks for the help guys, I found a place called Master Power Brakes. They have the full conversion for front and back to change over to disk and the manual to power brake parts as well.

MasterPower has been around a while.

Looks like they updated the offerings - do let us know what you think if you do this (Pictures of the process would be great).

I think they use GM calipers like SkareBird...
