4x4 rad support question?

Postby rjewkes » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:18 am

are they extremely diff. from the 2 wheel drive versions? i tried to put a 77 on my 70 and it came too close to the innerfender. by about an inch or so.

anybody have a spare 4x4 rad support hangin' 'round?

The only difference between a 2WD and a 4WD support is how the radiator mounts to it. A '77 support should fit your truck just fine. I've got a 4WD dentside support on my '67.

Keith,
I remember you seeing that the galvanized inners and core support will fit also?? What is the best year to get them from. Would it be easier to get the 4x4 one since my truck is a 4x4?

ok must be another problem but with the 70 inner fenders mounted the core support does not sit directly over the holes in the frame for the mount.

maybe the support i have is goofed and i just can't see it.

The dentside radiator support is a bolt-in into a bumpside....like I said, I have a '79 support in my '67, using the bumpside inner fenders. You will have to drill a few holes for the hood latch and the grill though, but that's very minor.

A 4WD support has 'wings' (for the lack of a better descriptive term) that hold the radiator out away from the support about 3 inches...something a 2WD support doesn't have. You can use a 2WD support on a 4WD or vice versa, as long as you also use the radiator meant for that support.

I've detailed all the above info at this link:

I'm not sure what your problem is, but is should fit like a glove. Maybe you need to loosen your inner fenders to get the support lined up?

there losse as can be, i've even removed the bolts hoping to atleast get them on together then adjust until the bolts would go through.

i have another 77 core support to try and see if it will work.

Just a thought, you don't have the core support backwards do you?

First thing i double checked. i'll tripple check to make sure but it seems to e an 1/4-1/2" difference. If i leave the support unbolted at the frame it fits realy good. i could be bolting to the wrong holes cuase they seem realy extra big but there the only ones that far forward on the frame.
