Is this a power steering box for a 4WD? (pics included)

Postby JWW » Fri Feb 08, 2008 4:56 pm

I have been reading the section on coverting a 4WD to power steering. I found this one at a salvage yard. I'm not planning on using since my truck is a 2WD, but I wanted to make sure it was 4WD only before I passed it up.

 Good eye. That looks to be a power steering box from a half ton becuase of the coil spring front suspension. I'm sure somebody is actually looking for that box. Doug

X2 on the 1/2 ton.
Looks almost identical to the one I got from a 79 Bronco.
It does however appear to be just a tad longer up and down though.

That's the 76-79 F-150 4x4 box.

The casting number you posted is off the torsion valve assembly. It reads as a 67 part number because the valve is the same from 68 through 97.

These boxes are a popular swap for EB's and obviously F-100 4x4's. Most swaps require you to swap out the ballnut for one that works in the opposite direction.
