f-100 4x4 power steering ?

Post by mike_morgan21 »

I have a 1969 f-100 4x4 that i wanted to put power steering on. I was wondering if any one has done this iv looked at the tech papers but that swap was for a f-250 or would it be basically the same? One difference that i have noticed was that my truck has coil springs and the 250 has leaf springs. any info would be grate :fr:

The 76-79 F-150 4x4 power box fits the best. You just drill 3 holes and bolt it on. Might have to swap the ballnut for a 1980 and newer one though, can't remember. There are only two different ballnuts from 68 through 97 in all ford truck power boxes and they both interchange. It's just they turn opposite directions

I cut down my stock shaft on one end or the other and reused it, no rag joint.

Sorry I dont remember which end I cut, I did it in 1988 ;)

An additional thing to do while you are in there is disassemble the slider on the steering box end of the shaft, turn the wear blocks 1/4 turn and repack with grease.

I have found that stock 1/2 setup wears the blocks and by turning it and repacking you can get rid of 30 yrs of wear (the other sides of the blocks dont rub anywhere)

Disassemble the lower slider joint on the steering shaft and you'll see what I mean
