Transmission/Transfer Case Issue

Post by ford4x4fun »

My truck is 71 F100, that had the NP 435 with a Dana 21 Transfer Case. Well as most of you know I had a shop jack up my transmission. Well I got a knew NP 435 off of a truck that had a NP 205 Transfer Case. The spline part that hooks into the Transfer case isn't exactly like the NP 435 that hooked to the Dana 21. I just wanted to know if this transmission will work or what I have to do to make it work. Thanks for your time. I wish I would have taken pictures but I forgot my camera while I was home this weekend. And as always thanks in advance.

the D21 NP435 is just a 2wd transmission. You will have to upgrade to an NP205 to use the 4x4 NP435 (very wise upgrade).

I'm asking, but is the F100 trans a 2by trans like the F250's? I thought the F100's were mated.

They are mated, but they use essentially the same NP435 as the 2wd's. It's the same deal when you want to put a 435 in an early bronco with a D20. You buy yourself a 2wd 435 because the shaft and rear bolt pattern on the case are correct.
