Stock dash speaker?

Post by cdnwillyg »

I am at a loss as to how the under dash speaker is suppose to be installed. :hmm: I didn't take the speaker out so not sure what if anything is missing or am I just not seeing it and I don't have it so can't even try it to see. A pic would be nice and a size, thinking 5x8 is what I think I read. :? I have two working original radios so would like to put this back to stock with a speaker similar.
Thanks

if i remember correcty, there is a bracket that the speaker fits into. then the bracket goes into a slot under the dash, and a bolt other end. I saw one of the brackets sitting in the bed of one of my parts trucks yesterday.

Thanks both of you, and yes I don't have it but then with a new speaker it wouldn't have worked anyhow. I will now try and fab something up but have a question. You said that the magnet went thru the square hole, is it okay that the magnet touches the holding bracket?

IIRC the stock speaker magnet is a sort of square roll not typical of current speaker magnets.

I would try to fabricate something that held it by the basket is possible.

LMC and probably others sell a set up that puts 2 Smaller speakers in a special bracket...

Robert I went and look at LMC and can not find the speaker bracket you said they have? No luck in finding others either. :hmm: It would be really easy to modify an original to work if I had one. Anyone have an extra one they would sell? :D

I wanted the dash speaker in its original location and when I changed my dash pad I just bought a speaker of similar size to the original
and then I was able to just use 4 zip ties through the 4 holes of the speaker and looped through the 4 holes in the dash.
Worked for me and the dash speaker sounds good too.

Good solution if I had my dash pad off, not wanting to take it off after the pain of getting it on so it fit right.
I went thru my parts again and I found the bracket...not sure how I missed that the other 3-4 times??? :? My eyes must be playing tricks on me as this is not the only thing I have found...after I bought ANOTHER.
So now the speaker can't fit because its not stock, and I don't think there is enough room to make a bracket that will work with out interfering with the radio.

I used the bracket to mount 2 4" speakers. I can't remember what I did, I just know the sound sucked.

Well I made a speaker bracket to fit my 6x9 in the same config as the original. :D
20180123_201530.jpg
It went in like it was meant to but.........
the speaker is deeper than the original by 1/2" I guess because the radio would not go in.

So now I need to find a 6x9 speaker that is 2.5" deep.
