anyone using 4 eyeball vent style A/C (MUstang)

Post by takehikes »

I am going to put AC in to my 68. I am not going to go find a factory unit and msot of the aftermarket doesnt look all that good to me. I did discover that the unit that mounts on the floorboard on the center hump like the mustangs of the 60's used is can be had. Seems to be this would be a great option and simplfy installation. Any one have one and can guide me?
Failing that any opinions on which AC unit looks most like the factory (dealer installed) set up?

I have the Ford-Aire Under Dash Factory A/C in my '64 Fairlane (the 4 eyeball style). I had it converted to R-134. Honestly, as an efficient A/C, I'd give it about a 7 out of 10 ranking. Performs well enough but nothing to brag about. Your right side will be nice and cool but your left shoulder will be baking from the sun as there is no outer vents to cool the door sides of the interior. I expect the same deal out of my Factory A/C I have for my truck. These guys sell about the closest thing to Factory for our trucks. http://nostalgicac.com/complete-ac-kits ... ystem.html They have the outer vents and the more up to date compressor systems. Old Air Products and Classic Auto Air also sell similar units. Of course, there's always Vintage Air but these other guys are cheaper.

Thanks for the info. My guess would be it will work pretty well in the truck with half the cabin space as a car. I'm simply looking at cost, having something at least era correct and ease of install and keep coming back to this as a good answer. Not to mention where it mounts is completely wasted space.
