Right steering wheel?

Post by Buckin1 »

]Alright I have a 72 F100 Custom 4x4 which is pretty much original. My steering wheel is a 3 spoke, and all the brochure pictures I see show the single side to side center type in them. Just wondering if mine was changed or mine is correct. I would want to replace mine with a reproduction correct one as mine is cracked.

1970 was the last year of the three spoke steering wheel.

Thank you. Now off to try to find the right one. Looks like Dennis Carpenter is not reproducing one right now. Know of anyone else who handles the correct one?

Yep....early Falcons also used the same steering wheel: http://www.falconparts.com/ford-falcon- ... 18p532.htm

"This is an excellent reproduction BLACK ONLY steering wheel for all models of the 1960 - 1963 Ford Falcon & Mercury Comet. This steering wheel is also correct for the 1961 - 1970 Ford trucks."

That info is great for the earlier years, but does anyone know who has the right one for a 71 or 72?

I have a never-installed, NOS wheel slated for my 71 F250. It's purty.

I don't think they ever started making a "repro" and any good, used, uncracked 71-72 wheels are hard to come by... unless you want black. NPD has a "repro" black one, at the low cost of $250. I just sold a Red original 71-72 wheel for $175, so there are deals out there, its just a matter of finding the right deal at the right time. The guy I sold it to had been looking for two years! Talk about patience!!!

On the DC website, it states that the "tooling is undergoing maintenance". Has anyone ever pulled the trigger on one of these? I though there were some subtle differences between the 73-79 and 71-72 wheels...

I also know that Eastwood makes a steering wheel restoration kit, and for quite a few makes and models of cars/trucks this is the only option. The horn centre is also available from DC which finishes it off nicely.

Not sure if this helps you, but maybe we can tease out some options for you.

I can wait and see what the "under maintenance " or whatever they want to call it is. If someone has a nice one or original one they want to sell let me know.

What color do you need? I believe there was black, red, and blue, and slight variations of each color...
