Truck Carpet Odors

Post by 390FE1972 »

I found a like new black carpet out of a 1972 4 X 4 at the junk yard recently. The only problem is some of the transmission oil got on the carpet. The carpet smells like 90 W oil. Does anyone know of a way to get this smell out of the carpet? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I use a good dish soap and a medium brush for stuff like that and have had pretty good results - the seat in my truck had hydraulic oil spilled on it sometime in the past and it took it out - but it will take more than one time of doing it and letting it air out good. I put the soap on whatever I'm cleaning straight out of the bottle and wet it down, scrub it in really good, let it set for about 10 mins and rinse and do it again 2 more times - then I'll let it dry and see if it needs it done again.
