Bucket seat measurement?

Post by Bronco_77 »

Does anybody have or can you get me a measurement on how much room you have between a set of factory bucket seats. Thanks for help I've got an idea but need to know how much room I've got to work with first.

Somebody who has them installed, mine aren't ready yet, could probably get you a more accurate measurement but I built an angle iron frame to mount mine with. I'll be using a center console/jump seat from a 2010 F150 as my console. The frame is designed to mimic the original mounting brackets and locate the seats in the same position as if they were used so the dimensions correspond to the mounting holes of those brackets. I laid it out in CAD, from the bracket drawings in the tech section, and designed the frame around them. In the photo, the 2 squares in the front a where the seat tracks mount and the 2 angles in the center are where the console mounts. IIRC, it allows for around 15" between the seat cushions and the console fits in there with about a 1/2" clearance to the seats. I still have some modification to do on the jump seat to lower it but you get the idea.

that's sort of the same idea im playing with. I do hvac for a livin and I was in a ladys attic the other day and there was a center seat for a Honda oddyse mini van and it looked like it would work perfect, fold down with storage and cup holders. I just have to have something lil bit shorter then the bench seat thr 6 speed shifter is right up against the seat.

I've got quite a bit of modification to do on the jump seat. I'm eliminating the headrest and need to cut 6" out of the back frame to lower it even with back of the buckets but want to keep the shoulder belt. Have to cut the foam and the plastic framework under the material too. I'll be hauling grandkids and want to make sure they're safely buckled in. Also have to trim the metal base to sit lower in the seat frame. Won't be ready for it for quite a while so have plenty of time to think on it. The headrest just looks funky with the back folded down.

I like where ur headed with that. I'm afraid what ever I do I'm going to have shortin the bottom part of the center the shifter is going to make it real fun in the pic it's in 1st gear and u can't even get 2nd and that's even after I shortened the linkage up lil over 5 inches.

I did a test fit on my 67 Cougar XR7 buckets. I’m not installing these yet, but perhaps in 5-10 years. Took some measurements for you:

This will of course depend on the seat foams and bucket style you use, but this should be fairly close to 65-68 Mustang/ Cougar buckets.

That's quite a predicament. Thought about a remote shifter setup? Found this thread on the HAMB with a lot of good ideas. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/thr ... er.606353/

Thanks for the mersuments man I think I might have enuff room to be able to make what Im wanting to do work. I'll have to check the shifter thing out but I'm pretty happy with where it's at right now it just feels good.

i just installed factory buckets in mine and came up with 14 inches.
got to also come up with a console of some kind. need drink holders for sure. always thought it would be neat to insulate the console for ice and use an extra factory seat hole for a drain. love the bucket seats....
