Hot Rod Flatz

Postby Tycho on Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:18 pm

Anyone have experience with this paint? Is it easy to shoot? Thinking about doing it myself.

Initially I wanted to do John Deere's Blitz Black but apparently it's a pain in the ass to paint over.

Would the kit (which makes 1.5 gallons) be enough to spray a bumpside? I'll be skipping the bed, so I'm leaning towards yes.

Post up your experiences or pictures if you have em

SKipping the bed all together or do you mean the bed floor?
If you not shooting the bed at all then I'd say that's plenty.
Just sand sand sand before paint!

A lot of the body work was done for us before I even bought the truck. I am going to do the bed black separate from the rest of the truck.

I have heard it is easy to spray and know a couple people who have sprayed it outside and/or in their garages.

It is a horrible surface to pinstripe on though....   :o

Thats nice and all, but they dont have a search feature on their forums. The picture thread had exactly 1 mention of HRF.

Nice truck, yours? If so, how much paint did you have to buy to do 2 coats?

I realize it is just cheap omni with a flattener, but do you have any other suggestions on how to get a similar (or better) look for cheap?

I'm shooting for matte white or matte black. My wheels are a sort of matte/flat black and I think either color would look killer with matte black trim/cage/bumpers.
It's not supposed to be a hot rod or anything, just an off-road truck so odd looking schemes are encouraged. Even considering Desert Storm Tan with black cage/trim.

Here are two examples, both owned (or formerly owned) by Rob Dyrdek.

I've yet to see anything around here even remotely close to that. Really, no flat black cars or matte colored cars. So even though it might look garish to some I think
it'd be unique and fit with the overall scheme of the truck.
