The glass shops here in the city are telling me a 79 windshield is different and wont work.

Are they wrong?

Of course they will tell you that, they want to sell you one! The rear window will not interchange from dent to bump. I have pictures here of my 79', (most that know me knew when I parted the 79' out before I left Florida). And if you go to my build thread you'll see where my buddy Doug and I put the 79' glass in it. Take this picture to them and tell them I'll produce the receipt from when the glass company put it into my 79' if they want:

I know the local glass place here that advertises doing custom glass for street rods quoted me $189 installed for a new windshield. That doesn't include a new rubber but at that price I think it a good deal. If you have them install your windshield you lose if they break it. If they put their windshield in & it breaks they buy another & try again on their dime. Just some food for thought. You might find it a good route for you if you get to checking local glass shops. I would be looking at locally owned shops over nationally known shops. I would also be looking for any reference to custom cars, glass, street rods, restorations, etc. A great indicator they have no issues working on your old truck.

Just like Jeff said I have always heard the '67-'79 windshields are interchangeable. A potential reason they might say the '79 windshield is not right is they are going by a number in the book. I know my windshield does not have a tint strip across the top. Maybe the '79 does & that is the only difference. Still a different windshield based on part number. Don't know why they told you that just an idea.

I waited two half days for them to show once....  Took an afternoon off work ("We'll be there between 1 and 5pm Sir!") and they never showed.  Rescheduled the week following for a Friday.  Again they didn't show (down one full day's pay so far...).  I called and they said "We have you booked for Saturday"  Now, we were going out of town Friday night so I KNOW I didn't book 'em for Saturday...!       So I rescheduled the following Monday.  Told 'em to be at my place at 0800 and I'd be there some time between 8am and 12pm.  They didn't think that was reasonable (yeah, no sh*t!!) and thus ended any present or future Safelite business on my end.

I have a great local shop. They do all the custom cars around here along with muscle cars. Great service & awesome prices.

can someone tell me what year windshields will work in my 67?

Dave, my bump has the windshield from my 79' in it, (as well as a bunch more parts the 79' donated.  
From 67-79 the front windshields are the same.  

 He is correct.  This is my profession.  Silicone works just fine for adhering the rubber to the cab.  The only problem is if you ever want to paint it you will have to sand it down.  So paint it first then do the windshield.  Don't use any other sealer for it.

It might include new rubber but I doubt it. The rubbers often time cost more than the windshield.

As far as companies telling you they won't interchange is because over the years they make interchanges for windshields where they make changes and stuff.  So a windshield now for a 79 might not be the same windshield as one back when they first made them.  This happens a lot more on Chevys then it does fords, but it still happens.

Update, went to a local glass shop/wrecking yard.

$110.00 installed and the guy came to the house and worked his ass off. I felt sorry for him.

But it was better than me helping and breaking another one.

Dave, maybe someday it will get some paint.    Glad you got the windshield done.
