What do you think of this cab?

Post by michael9218 »

Fellas, looking for some help. I found a truck that appears to be rot free and a shortbed to boot...from the pictures. The truck is 3 hours one way, so I'm wanting to be sure I'm interested before driving.

Take a look at the drivers side door/rear cab corner. This looks suspect to me. It looks like a little bubbling under the paint on the door and the cab corner doesn't quite line up with the door. Also looks like some sanding marks under the paint. I'm no body man, so am hoping someone on here will chime in.

Also look at the rust in the roof seam at the back of the cab. Is this a big issue or an easy repair?

Door fitment was never a strong point from the factory. That truck looks OK. It does have the normal rust under the cheap repaint in the door corners and some at the back of the fender. Again, pretty typical. Top of the cab is typical rust coming out at the seams. Depending on how bad it is depends on how much work it needs to be remedied. I'd be more concerned about the back window gasket's condition letting too much moisture in. Bed side seam rust is a killer.

I don't see much that I would worry about if the price was decent.

Well it's not "rot free" but it's not terrible.
There will be holes in the door and fender that we see.
where is the truck? in Michigan it's not bad , in AZ or NV you could find better ,(I think)
What are your goals for the truck (show ? or work truck? or in between ?.)
What's your budget?

If you will look at some of the pictures of the absolute disasters that guys here have brought back to their original glory, you'll conclude that the cab your looking at is in comparatively great shape. Any time I need some motivation to continue my bodywork I just look on this site.
1967 F-100 4x4 custom cab.
Another 67 F-100 4x4 custom cab.

It doesn't look that bad. With our trucks there is pretty much no such thing as truly rest free. Just less rust. Just my :2cents:

Thanks for the opinions. I think I'll make the drive and look at the truck. It does appear to have some rust down the bed seam, but less than most I've seen. I'm in the southeast, so most have rust due to the humidity.
