flareside wood bed - another

Post by hillcountryflt »

Spent a day getting rid of the 2x6 boards the PO had used on the bed of my 71 flareside (sb). I was amazed at how much effort it required. I am doing this in preparation for moving the bed back to allow us room to cut out and replace the cab corners.
Moving forwward, I am not sure if I will go with some pre-cut and drilled kits and get new hardware or try to re-use the hardware and either pre-cut/drilled wood or make my own wood decking.
One issue in this process is the wife. She laid claim when I bought this rust bucket that she wanted to be involved in selecting wood for the truck. To that end I found a source that had a lot of variety of pre-cut (not sure about pre-drilled) wood in various styles. Our usual sources only have the two options of oak and pine. If left on my own, I was going to use the pseudo-wood for decks you can obtain at Lowes. However, I don't see that flying with the wife.
Any of you run across additional sources for wood flooring for our trucks? I have obtained the dimensional data if I were to go with non-predrilled/pre-cut.
Also, while I got the cab back, I am hoping to replace the rubber cab mounts bushings. The cab mounts themselves look to be in pretty good shape. I have the kit from DC. Any words of wisdom on this effort?

The wood from lowes don't look bad if it's done right. My dad is putting 5/4 decking boards in the bed of a 50 Chevy 5 window now just square the sides and edges and looks fine.

Have you tried BOFT for the bed wood?
I thought that DC had the wood also?
