Fender Patch Panel

Post by Mudbone2005 »

I am fairly new to body work and I am attempting to repair my fender with a patch panel from MAC. The panel edge the part that lines up with the door came more as an rounded edge where the original is more 90 sharper edge. I want to know the best way to get it to match the edge of the factor.

Would piece of angle iron and hammer it to match the best way to go?

That would work. I'd grind a small radius to it's lip so the edge will still be slightly rounded. Be gentle and be wary that the panel doesn't flatten out as you work the lip.

I am not sure I follow? Do mean grind the angle iron slightly round

Yep. Make it match the curve you want to reproduce. A heavy chunk of steel works well or hold your form in a vise while you work the metal with the hammer. Metal forming is a fascinating subject that you can get lost in easily. www.allmetalshaping.com Is pretty good.
