Body Swap

Post by thatoneguy »

I have two 1970 F-100, one 4x2 that I have had since I turned 16 and I just purchased a 4x4. The body on the 4x4 is a clapped out Flintstone special so my plan is the take the body from my 4x2 and swap it onto the 4x4. Who has done a cab and bed swap before? Any tips, tricks, things to watch for, etc.?

It seems fairly straightforward to me but I have never attempted to replace anything more than a front clip on this truck (and I am still pissed off at the a-hole who backed into it and drove away).

The cab and bed are a direct swap. Might as well change your cab mount bushings while you're at it. The only thing to really watch out for is anything that goes into the cab or bed. Things like wiring, fuel lines, brake cables, brake/clutch/accelerator/steering linkage, etc. I pulled my cab off by myself and nearly dumped it before I remembered the E-brake cable and fuel line went through the floor into the cab.

I think the back cab mounts are different on the 4x2. the embossed areas in the back of the cab are there for the 4x4 mount but need to cut the hole.

Thanks, Rich. I wasn't aware of that.
