1969-1970 COLUMN WIRING HARNESS
So..I had Tom at Flashback F100'S rebuild my manual 3OTT column, awesome job by the way Tom!
Tom did not have a 70 turn signal/wiring harness and had to use a 1969 model year. The 1970 has an extra YELLOW wire on the harness/truck side and the new 69 harness doesnt..I am having issues getting the turn signals..brakes etc to all work properly..
Does anyone know or can assist me in getting all the turn signals, brakes etc to come on as they should? That would be great!!
Thanks!

Re: 1969-1970 COLUMN WIRING HARNESS
Since you're in NC, you don't have to get a Bump inspected.
Applies to all vehicles 35 years old or older.
I guess having turn signals and brake lights would be a good thing, though...
But, to answer your question, looking at the wiring diagrams, the wiring looks pretty much the same, with 7 wires, but the 69 has two connectors whereas the 70 has only one. The second connector on the 69 switch is for the rear lights, whereas they're incorporated in the single connector for the 70.
Here's the 69 diagram: http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _81-85.jpg
And here's the 70: http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... master.jpg
Wire numbers legend (on the truck side of the connector):
#1 - Horn
#2 - RF Turn Signal
#49 - Dash (RH Turn Signal Indicator)
#3 - LF Turn Signal
#50 - Dash (LH Turn Signal Indicator)
#282 - RR Turn Signal
#283 - LR Turn Signal
#810 - Brake Light Switch
#810A - Emergency Flasher Switch
#44 - Turn Signal Flasher
#2 & #49, #3 & # 50, #810 & #810A are paired at the connector, resulting in the 7 wires referenced above.
I just went and looked at my 70, and the yellow wire on the truck side of the harness is #283 (LR Turn Signal), so apparently that's not your problem. On my Shee-Mar T/S switch, that connected to a green wire with a red marker on the switch side.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: 1969-1970 COLUMN WIRING HARNESS
From this master 1970 F series wiring diagram-I believe that wire #283/283A would be the only yellow wire coming from the wiring harness on a 1970 model:
http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... master.jpg
And from the Ford truck master color code diagram yellow would be either the left rear turn signal feed or the battery to horn feed wire.

And here's the 69's wiring harness diagram:

Does your column have the two harnesses coming from it as the 67-69 would have or just bare wiring with no harness?
If memory serves me right the yellow on my 71' was the rear left side turn signal feed from the switch.
Which I believe might be blue/white coming out of the 69 column switch you have, (yellow from the truck side harness should tie into blue/white from the column-to get the left turn signal and brake light working).

Re: 1969-1970 COLUMN WIRING HARNESS
Thanks 70_F100!
I have been able to get the brake lights working but still cannot seem to get the signals working properly...everything I try gives me blinkers in reverse, "turn on passenger side, drivers side blinks!?"
I will reference your diagram and notes...I did not know our trucks didnt need to pass state inspection...good info thanks!

Thanks basketcase..no I have only one connector/wiring harness from the column... any clue on the RR side signal hookup? ...this is quite perplexing indeed.basketcase0302 wrote:From this master 1970 F series wiring diagram-I believe that wire #283/283A would be the only yellow wire coming from the wiring harness on a 1970 model:

Re: 1969-1970 COLUMN WIRING HARNESS
Wire #282 on the above 69' wiring diagram should be a Green wire in the harness in your truck, this should be the right rear brake/turn signal. You should just be able to switch the two around, (where they exit the column) to get the correct side working if they are backwards.
