Ford TFI ingnition conversion

Post by tnab1970 »

Working with a 1969 F100 with a 240/300 6cyl in it. Has anyone wired in the later model Ford TFI distributor and ignition module from around 1987-1991 I have one from a 1990 model I would like to use. Running on points now , only issue is finding good quality points and condensers. have bought and ran Pertronix both went out in less than a year, and left me stranded with no of the shelf parts available. I checked all the installation requirements with pertronix , it was wired correctly. I have the parts I need from a truck we scrapped and would like to use then if possible. this way I have the benefit of electronic ignition and off the shelf parts. I am not and electrical guy. I know enough to be dangerous most of the time.
thanks for the help in advance.

Can't help with the wiring, but I've had good luck finding NOS points/condensers or aftermarket made in USA points/condensers on eBay for pretty cheap. They work way better than anything I've gotten from the auto houses.

Was that TFI setup from a fuel injected or carbureted truck? Did you see my post on the Duraspark in your other thread?http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =3&t=83124. There appears to be considerable visible difference in the '91 distributor and module. I have my concerns that the distributor even has the correct cam gear.

Sargentrs, yes I saw the duraspark post. I would be happy with those parts, aside from the fact that I already have the TFI setup and I am a cheap skate. I may have to go that route. The TFI setup I have is off of a fuel injected truck. I have not researched the physical fit of the distributor or the cam gears. I will do that. thanks for the direction.
