Tail/Brake Light Craziness

Post by Cal2121 »

Hoping I can get some advice on chasing down this issue. My tail/brake lights are working or not working in wonky ways. My buddy followed my home today and noticed the following:

- When I brake while just driving down the road (without a blinker on), sometimes only one brake light comes on, and it's not always the same one that comes on (i.e., sometimes the left comes on and not the right and other times the opposite).

- If I'm driving and using a blinker and applying the brakes, the blinker worka and the other brake light works.

When I hit the brakes in the garage after I got home, both brake lights came one. Not sure what the problem could be or where to start. Any input on chasing this down is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Craig

Your turn signal switch isn't returning back to center.

Step on your brake without the key on. then move your t s lever you can see each light go on and off.
you should be able to "feel" center.

You may need to remove your steering wheel and spray some electrical cleaner over the switch.

Worn bulb sockets and grounds behind the tail lights are usual suspects. As well as tss being worn and not connecting properly.

In our trucks though. When blinker is on the brake light for that side is turned off so you can see the blinker work. The other brake light will work as normal.

My final answer. The turn signal switch isn't in proper operation. And probably need replaced.
