Aftermarket cd player

Post by Lone Ranger »

When my key is in the off position with the key out my CD player continues to play. I brought power from the positive side of the starter solenoid. I also grounded the radio straight to the battery( when not grounded to the battery the CD player would get very hot). Is my ignition switch faulty?

Every time I go to start the truck it's dead too. I can jump it and run it awhile but turning on the lights kills it and I have to jump it again. Not sure if these issues are related. Anyone else ever have these issues?

The best place to get power for an aftermarket CD, Cassette or AM/FM Radio would be to use the fused power wire to the original factory radio. Otherwise, I would connect the CD Player's power wire to a switched terminal in the truck's fuse box. There should be a switched and unswitched terminal in the fuse box. If your CD Player has a clock, you would connect the clock/memory wire to the unswitched terminal of the fuse box. Make sure that the CD player's power wires have in-line fuses.

I have my aftermarket radio all wired now but now I have a question about the under dash speaker. I assumed I could hook up front left and front right to this dash speaker. When I do this however the sound gets fuzzy. I have rear left and right going to door speakers. I hate to just have one side of the radio going to the dash speaker.
Does the under dash speaker have the ability to play stereo left and right?
Do I have to get a dash speaker that has two small speakers in it?

That's good to hear I'm glad you got it working. You can't use a single speaker for left and right. You will need a dual voice coil speaker. You also may be able to cut a piece of plexiglass, metal or particle board/plywood to fit the dash speaker hole and mount a pair of 3 1/2" co-axial speakers where the original factory speaker was. Something like this;

Thanks nightkruiser. Did the factory radio radio setup not have stereo sound? My old truck with stock radio sounded great.... But only got AM
