It shouldn't hurt to leave that film in place when you re-install the cluster

Seems to work.

The fuel gauge as well seems to register more correctly, I will have to fill it up and see if it goes all the way to full now.

Next step, on to trying to remedy the fuel smell...

If you have dual tanks, check the fittings on the tank selector valve, make sure they're tight.
If the valve itself is leaking fuel, you may need to replace it.
Also, if you have the tank behind the seat, check to see if the rubber hose from the filler cap is cracked, loose, etc. Replace if needed.

Single tank and most of the lines have been replaced, going to reseal the sender using a different sealer new gasket and replace the remaining hoses.

Once I took a close look at the printed circuit, most of the traces were compromised in some way, not surprising things didn’t work properly. I know we are way off the original subject here, but for 70 up don’t overlook the printed circuit.... :D

The fuel gauge actually goes to Full and the gas smell stays outside the cab!!!

(It is amazing what little stuff excites me...)
